Elwood G. Kimes, 87, of 25 Christopher Drive, formerly of 707 N. Countyline St., Fostoria, died at 12:14 a.m. Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, in Fostoria Community Hospital.

He was born in Fostoria, Jan. 6, 1912, to Howard E. and Anna (Daub) Kimes. On July 16, 1950, in Fostoria, he married Bernice A. Wolf, who survives in Fostoria.

A son, Howard M. Kimes of Springfield, and five grandchildren survive.

Preceding him in death were: two brothers, Michael and Milton Kimes, and two sisters, Helen Stoldt and Thelma Schubert.

A World War II U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Kimes retired in 1970 from National Electric Carbon, Fostoria, where he was employed as a brick mason for 10 years.

He was a member of High Street United Methodist Church and the VFW, both of Fostoria, and the VFW Nation Champ Bank.

Services in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria Chapel, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Jeffrey Waite officiating. Interment will be in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria, with military graveside services conducted by the United Veterans of Fostoria.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to High Street United Methodist Church, 243 W. High St., Fostoria, Ohio 44830; or the Fostoria Community Foundation, 121 N. Main St., Fostoria.

 



Paul H. Krupp
Lifelong Fostoria resident

Paul H. Krupp, 93, of St. Catherines Care Center, formerly of North Main Street, Fostoria, died at 8:18 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, at the Fostoria Community Hospital. He was born May 8, 1905 in Fostoria to George E. and Amanda (Babcock) Krupp. On July 11, 1931, he married Cleo May Allis in Fostoria. She survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, David P. Krupp of Fostoria and Nathan Krupp of Salem, Ore.; a daughter, Mrs. Janet Therriauld of Palm Bay, Fla.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Krupp was a 1923 graduate of Fostoria High School. He started working for the Review Times in 1923 in the sales and delivery department. He worked as a printer, advertising representative, and writer until 1991. A member of the Fostoria First Church of the Nazarene, and former member of the YMCA, and was very active in both state and local levels. He was a former member, founder and first president of the Fostoria Lions Club, also a 32nd degree Mason of the Fostoria Lodge 288, F&AM.

The Rev. Robert Chew, the Rev. Russell Gumm, and the Rev. Gerald Krupp will officiate the 11 a.m. Monday service at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial will be at Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation hours are 1-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Fostoria First Church of the Nazarene.

 



Matilda G. Kinn
Fostoria resident

Matilda G. Kinn, 94, formerly of 11404 Columbus Ave., Fostoria, died at 4:15 p.m. Friday, May 28, 1999, in the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Fostoria.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Wendelin's Catholic Church, Fostoria.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hoening Funeral Home in Fostoria.

Kenneth Sterling Koon
Licensed professional engineer

Kenneth Sterling Koon, 90, of 725 Columbus Ave., Fostoria, died at 12:23 a.m. Monday, July 12, 1999, in Fostoria Community Hospital, following a short illness.

He was born Aug. 30, 1908, in Ann Arbor, Mich., to William and Nettie (Shetterly) Koon. On Aug. 18, 1934, in Sodus Point, N.Y., he married Flora Shafer. She died Dec. 30, 1998.

Survivors include: four daughters, Susan Rhodes of Fostoria, Sheril Green of Rapid City, S.D., Joan Koon of Johnson City, N.Y., and Ann Larkins of Marietta, Ga.; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

A licensed professional engineer, Mr. Koon worked for IBM Corp. in New York State for 36 years, first in Endicott then Owego. He retired as a quality assurance service project manager from IBM's Federal Systems Division in 1969, after receiving many honors including a U.S patent in 1952, relative to Electro-Mechanical Card Sensing Devices.

He was a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, New York Society of Professional Engineers and the National Society of Professional Engineers.

He held project engineering positions at IBM and was inducted into the IBM Quarter Century Club.

He received a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan, where he was a member of Sigma Rho Tan Fraternity, Triangle Society, Scabbard and Blade (national honorary military society), ROTC and the Senior Engineering Society.

He served as a colonel in the U.S. Army Signal Corps 1941-46 in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

Mr. Koon served more than 30 years on Maine-Endwell School Board and was a member of the board of deacons, an elder and a clerk of session for Northminster Presbyterian Church, Endwell. He also supported his wife in her many volunteer activities, becoming a member of Girl Scouts of America. He was active in the Maine Kiwanis, Endwell Rotary and National Amateur Printers Association.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. July 31 in Northminster Presbyterian Church, Endwell, where calling hours will be 10-11 a.m. that day.

Billy R. King
Basic Inc. retiree

Billy R. King, 73, died at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, at his home at TR 1002, Amsden.

He was born in Bloomdale June 26, 1926, to Orvil and Orpha (Barringer) King. His wife, Bernadine "Marge" (Reeder) King, whom he married May 1, 1946, in Portland, Ind., survives in Amsden.

Survivors include: two sons, Terry King of Amsden and Jerry King of Rising Sun; two daughters, Mrs. Barry (Nancy) Koepfer of Amsden and Mrs. Dan (Rose Mary) Hale of Mount Victory; three sisters, Glada Gangwer, Marlene Sallisbury and Jean Shaw, all of Fostoria.

Also preceding him in death were a son, Arnold King; and four brothers, Robert, John, Keith and Dean King.

Mr. King, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, retired from Basic Inc., Maple Grove, in 1973, as a maintenance person, with more than 27 years of service.

He was a member of Amsden United Methodist Church and the Basic Quarter Century Club.

The Rev. Gary Staats will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Saturday service in the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria. Interment will be in Trinity Cemetery, near Rising Sun.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

 



Robert E. 'Bud' King
Fostoria native

Robert E. "Bud" King, 71, of 322 W. Fairview, Upper Sandusky, where he had resided the past 40 years, died at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, in Mt. Carmel West Medical Center, Columbus.

He was born Sept. 10, 1928, in Fostoria, to Virgil and Cathleen (Carr) King. His wife, Carol A. (Heffelfinger) King, whom he married April 13, 1957, in Sandusky, survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Terry E. King of Sycamore, Dale L. and James V. King, both of Upper Sandusky; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild; and a brother, William V. "Si" King of Bucyrus.

A granddaughter also is deceased.

Mr. King, a member of Community Christian Center Church, Upper Sandusky, retired in 1978 from the shipping department of Swan Rubber Co., Bucyrus, after 30 years of service.

A U.S. Army veteran, having served 1950-52 during the Korean Conflict, he also was a member of Eagles 2184, Upper Sandusky and Moose Lodge 669, Bucyrus.

He enjoyed traveling, collecting magnets, fishing, playing cards and watching Big Time Wrestling.

Services in the Bringman-Clark and Company Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, with Pastor Bill Williamson and Dr. Herschel A. Rhodes officiating. Interment will be in Old Mission Cemetery, Upper Sandusky, where military graveside services will be conducted by local veterans organizations..

Visitation at the funeral home is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to the Coronary Care Unit of Wyandot Memorial Hospital, the Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society



Emma M. Lewis
Centenarian, formerly of Fostoria

Emma M. Lewis, 102, of Ottawa River Road, Toledo, and formerly of East South Street, Fostoria, died at 4:14 p.m. Monday, April 26, 1999, in Riverside-Mercy Hospital, Toledo.

She was born Feb. 23, 1897, in Loudon Township, Seneca County, to Lewis E.F. and Catherine (Streng) Manecke. Her husband, Willard E. Lewis, whom she married in March 1915, in Seneca County, died Oct. 2, 1937.

Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Conrad (Kathryn) Marriott of Toledo; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Also preceding her in death were a son, Harry W. Lewis; five brothers, Henry, Frank, George, Jacob and Harry Manecke; and a sister, Elizabeth Zuern.

Mrs. Lewis had been employed at the Ford Motor Co. in Fostoria, retiring in 1963, after 20 years.

A member of Grace United Church of Christ, Fostoria, she was past president of its Circle of Equity and a member for 43 years of the Church Quilters Group.

The Rev. Todd Petty and the Rev. Cindy Hunter will be the co-officiants at the 11 a.m. Friday service in Grace United Church of Christ. Burial will be in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, will be 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials may be made to the church or a charity of the donor's choice.

 



Essie E. Leatherman
Retired Allied-Autolite employee

Essie E. Leatherman, 74, died at 3:55 p.m. Monday, May 3, 1999, at the home of her cousin, Ronald Griffin, 1028 Sandusky St., Fostoria. She formerly lived at 340 George St., Findlay.

Mrs. Leatherman was born Dec. 17, 1924, to Wesley and Madella (Routson) Hampshire in Fostoria. She married Gaylen M. Leatherman June 20, 1953. He died in 1993.

She is survived by several cousins.

Also preceding her in death were a sister, Betty Routson, and a brother, Don Ish.

Mrs. Leatherman retired from Allied-Autolite in Fostoria after 30 years.

She was a graduate of Fostoria High School and affiliated with Ridge Chapel Church of the Nazarene, Carey.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, Carey, with burial in Memory Gardens near Arcadia.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bridge Home Health and Hospice or Ridge Chapel Church of the Nazarene, c/o of the funeral home.

 



Cyril C. Lucius
Fostoria resident

Cyril C. Lucius, 75, died at 8:22 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, 1999, in Fostoria Community Hospital. He resided at 808 Shore Drive, Fostoria.

Mr. Lucius was born Feb. 10, 1924, in Seneca County to Edward Lucius and Florence (Shultz) Lucius-Kinn.

He married Eileen M. Burns July 20, 1946, at St. Wendelin Catholic Church in Fostoria. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Michael H. and Greg R. Lucius, both of Fostoria; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Lucius of Columbus and C. James Lucius of Toledo; two sisters, Mrs. Harold (Mary Lou) Logsdon of Fostoria and Mrs. Marlin (Norma) Black of Tiffin.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Chad; a brother, Carl Lucius; and two sisters, Alma Lucius and Shirley Brickner.

Mr. Lucius retired in 1985 from the "Gauge Room" of Atlas Crankshaft, Fostoria, after 44 years.

He was a member of St. Wendelin Church in Fostoria, and a World War II U. S. Navy veteran.

The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Wendelin Church followed by burial in St. Wendelin Parish Cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria. The rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and 10 a.m. Friday at the church.

Memorials may be made to the Sharing Kitchen of Fostoria or Mass Intentions to the Church.

 



Virginia V. Lucadello
Flower/gift shop retiree

Virginia V. Lucadello, 82, of West Center Street, Fostoria, died at 4:09 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, 1999, in Fostoria Community Hospital.

She was born Feb. 9, 1917, in Glouster, Ohio, to Oscar and Ethel (Deem) Moody. Her husband, Anthony "Tony" Lucadello, whom she married May 14, 1938, in Decatur, Ind., died May 8, 1989.

Surviving are: a daughter, Toni Lucadello of Fostoria; a sister, Viola Kamence of Fostoria; and a granddaughter, Laney Fugett of Massillon.

Two brothers, Dwight and Jerald Moody; and a sister, Betty Gobbo, also are deceased.

Mrs. Lucadello, a 1934 graduate of Fostoria High School, retired in 1987 from a flower and gift shop in Fostoria, after 30 years of employment.

She was a member of Grace United Church of Christ, Fostoria, where she had served as a former board member and as past president of the Consistory.

She also was a former volunteer at Fostoria Community Hospital and a member of the Forem Club of Fostoria.

The Rev. Lucinda Hunter will be the officiant at the noon Saturday service in Grace United Church of Christ. Burial will be in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation at the church will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Memorials may be made to the church or Fostoria Junior Baseball.

The Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, is in charge of arrangements.

 



CLOYCE A. LEE

FOSTORIA -- Graveside services for Cloyce A. Lee, 75, of Fostoria, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria, the Rev. Lawrence E. Lynch officiating.

Visitation will be private.

Mr. Lee died at 9:25 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, 1999 at St. Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria.

He was born Dec. 2, 1923 in Fostoria to Harry and Faye (Sharpe) Lee.

Surviving are a son, Terry A. of Findlay; two daughters, Lana E. Stearns, Bluffton; Sally K. Bachtal, Chillicothe; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert E. of Fostoria.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Leona Baughman and Florence Doll.

Mr. Lee had been employed at Union Carbide, now National Electric Carbon, Fostoria. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army.

Memorials may be made to St. Catherine's Care Center, 25 Christopher Drive, Fostoria.

 



Bernard "Red" Lee
(Autolite retire)

Bernard A. Lee, 82, of 435 Park Ave., Fostoria, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, in Mesa, Ariz.

He was born May 23, 1917, in Napoleon, to Clayton and Vera (Stykemain) Lee. His wife, Katheryn (Knisely) Lee, whom he married Feb. 22, 1945, survives in Fostoria.

Survivors also include: three daughters, Mrs. John (Linda) Boos of Muskegon, Mich., Margaret "Peg" Keel of Worthington and Mrs. Rex (Carol) Burdette of Holly, Mich.; five grandchildren and a great-grandson; and a brother, William S. Lee of Arlington.

Mr. Lee a member of the First Christian Church, Fostoria, retired in 1977 from Bendix-Autolite, Fostoria, after 30 years of service.

A World War II U.S. Army veteran, he served in the European Theater in the Third Armored Division, where he earned a Purple Heart and an Oak Leaf Cluster.

He also was a member of American Legion Post 73, Fostoria.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the First Christian Church, with the Rev. Bertie Dell officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens, near Arcadia,.

Eugene J. Kirian
Union Carbide retiree

Eugene J. Kirian, 86, of 512 Glenview Drive, Fostoria, died in the Good Shepherd Home, Fostoria, at 12:20 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999.

He was born Feb. 3, 1913, in Fostoria, to Joseph J. and Florence (Carroll) Kirian, His wife, Dorothy L. (Altwies) Kirian, whom he married Sept. 28, 1935, in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, died Oct. 20, 1998.

Survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Carl (Janet) Haase and Mrs. Stephen (Mary) Weidner, both of Fostoria; 22 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Frank (Peg) Jurrus of Fostoria.

Also preceding him in death were three sons, John "Jack,"

William and James Kirian; a daughter, Barbara Beach; two sisters, Mary Catherine Tague and Dorothy Harris; and two brothers, Tim and Tom Enright.

Mr. Kirian, a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, retired in 1978 from the Union Carbide (now National Electrical Carbon), Fostoria, after 37 years of employment.

A 1932 graduate of St. Wendelin High School, he was a third degree Knight of Columbus Council 1197 member and fourth degree Father Kirsch Assembly 845 member, both of Fostoria. He also earned an associate degree in horticulture from the Ohio State University.

Services will be at noon Wednesday in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, where the rosary will be recited at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, where a Chalice presentation will follow the 8:30 p.m. Christian wake service and the Fourth Degree Honor Guard will take place 7-9 p.m.

Memorials may be made to St. Wendelin Church and Schools.

 


ANNA M. LAY

Funeral services for Anna Maxine Lay, 88, a resident of Fox Run Manor, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, the Rev. Craig Parker officiating. Burial will be in Zion Bloom Cemetery, Vanlue.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Lay died at 8:45 a.m. Friday, Dec. 17, 1999 at the nursing home.

She was born July 9, 1911 in Vanlue to Samuel D. and Winona E. (Shubert) Walters. She married Frank C. Lay on Nov. 2, 1929 in Carey, and he died Feb. 24, 1990.

Survivors include three sons, Don of Delta; John of Findlay; David of Provo, Utah; two daughters, Janine Faber, Fostoria; Marita Cole, Vanlue; 25 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two infant sons; a daughter, Deanna Miller; a grandchild; and a brother, Byron Walters.

Mrs. Lay was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
