Floyd K. Allison, 69, died at 5:10 p.m. Saturday, July 24, 1999, at his residence at 507 E. Findlay St., Carey.

He was born in Fostoria, Aug. 16, 1929, the son of the late Glenn and Marie (McClellan) Allison. On Sept. 4, 1948, in Greenup, Ky., he married Florence Jacques, who survives.

Survivors also include: three sons, Bill Allison of Upper Sandusky, Kenneth Allison of Tiffin and Keith Allison of Carey; a daughter, Linda Allison of Carey; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Glenn Jr. and John Allison; and four sisters, Mrs. Calvin (Velma) Coppes of Findlay, Joan Hill and Mrs. Johnnie (Barbara) Conley, both of Carey and Mrs. Mike (Glenda) Kinn of Alvada.

A brother, Charles; and an infant sister, Florence, also are deceased.

Mr. Allison, a member of the Protestant Faith, retired as a supervisor in 1991 from the National Lime and Stone Co. in Carey, after 42 years of employment.

A 1948 Carey High School graduate, he was a lifetime member of the Carey Conservation Club and a social member of VFW Post 3759, Carey.

He also was a former Scout Master of Den 51 Cub Scouts of Carey.

The Rev. Paul DeMoss will conduct the 11 a.m. Wednesday service in the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, Carey. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Fostoria homemaker/centenarian

Inez Marie Angles, 101, formerly of Vine Street, Fostoria, died at 6:20 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, 1999, in St. Catherines Care Center, Fostoria.

She was born in Defiance, Feb. 16, 1898, to John and Mae (Myers) Allen. On Oct. 2, 1915, in Monroe, Mich., she married Elza Virgil Angles, who died Feb. 5, 1981.

Survivors include: five sons, Allen of Urbana, Milton, Duane and Gregory, all of Fostoria and Ronald of Cape Coral, Fla.; two daughters, Donelda Myers of Fostoria and Marilyn Burford of Chatam, Onterio Canada; 30 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were two daughters, Audrey and Connie Angles; four brothers, Roy, Roll, William and Harry Allen; a sister, Nell Ogle; and three great-grandchildren, Jeff Angles, Thomas Buford and Cara Rae Myers.

A homemaker, Mrs. Angles was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Fostoria, where she was a former organist, Sunday School teacher and board member.

Services in the First Church of the Nazarene will be 11 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Russell Gumm officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens, near Arcadia.

Visitation at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today.

Robert Neal Banks
Union Carbide retiree

Robert Neal Banks, 78, of 461 W. Lytle St., Fostoria, died Friday afternoon, Jan. 29, 1999, in Memorial Hospital, Fremont.

He was born in Caldwell County, Mo., Feb. 25, 1920, to William Powell and Rosa (Bratcher) Banks. On June 24, 1944, in Tiffin, he marrried Nettie Virginia Shook, who survives in Fostoria.

Other survivors include: six sons, Ronnie Banks of Independence, Mo., Robert J. and Kevin M. Banks, both of Fostoria, Daniel D. Banks of Tiffin, John N. Banks of Lima and William F. Banks of Bloomdale; four daughters, Mrs. James (Nettie) Grine of Fostoria, Mrs. Stefen (Mary) Partlow of Bowling Green, Mrs. Jerry (Rita) Edinger of Tiffin and Mrs. Jerry (Cindy) Hopson of Bluffton; a step-son, James Spangler of Bradenton, Fla.; two step-daughters, Mrs. Stan (Roberta) Distel of Newark and Sharon Breington of Orlando, Fla.; 26 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 18 step-grandchildren; a brother, William P. Banks of Fostoria; and a sister, Rozella Dennis of Toledo.

Preceding him in death were a son, Bevin P. Banks, three brothers, seven sisters, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Banks, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, retired in 1978 as a furnace fireman from Union Carbide in Fostoria (now National Electrical Carbon), after 35 years of service.

He was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, Fostoria VFW and Tiffin AMVETS.

A funeral Mass in St. Wendelin Catholic Church will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rosary recited at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Wendelin Cemetery, Fostoria, with military graveside services conducted by the United Veterans of Fostoria.

Visitation at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, where a Christian Wake service will be at 8:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation or the American Heart Association.

Former Wesley Village resident

Anna E. Baker, 83, formerly of Wesley Village, Fostoria, died at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, in the Good Shepherd Home, Fostoria.

She was born in Pittsburg, Pa., Dec. 19, 1915, to Clyde R. and Mary Catherine (Rhein) Long. Her former husband, Elmer G. Baker, is deceased.

Survivors include: a son, James Baker of Fostoria; a daughter, Mary Ann Sherman, also of Fostoria; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, Mrs. Baker was a homemaker.

A funeral Mass in St. Wendelin Catholic Church will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, with the Rosary recited at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, is 2-5 p.m. today, where a Christian Wake service will be at 5 p.m.

Dorothy L. Bardon
Fostoria homemaker

Dorothy L. Bardon, 81, of SR 587, New Riegel, died at 2:25 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, in St. Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria.

Born Aug. 19, 1917, in Wyandot County, to George and Christina (Fruth) Heilman, she married Harold Bardon, Oct. 28, 1939, in McCutchenville. He preceded her in death.

Surviving are two sons, Richard Bardon of New Riegel and Jerry Bardon of Belvidere, Ill.; two sisters, Marjorie Tanner of McCutchenville and Magdelena Hufford of Sycamore; a grandchild, two great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were five brothers, Arden, Harold, Clair, Kenneth and Ralph Heilman.

Mrs. Bardon was a homemaker.

Services will be 1 p.m. today in the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, with the Rev. Donald Goodwin officiating. Interment will be in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation is one hour prior to the service today at the funeral home.

Mae Elizabeth Beck
Former owner, Wayside Inn

Mae Elizabeth Beck, formerly of Fostoria, died at 10:44 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, at Mercy Memorial Hospital, Monroe, Mich. She had been a resident of the Lutheran Home of Monroe for the past four years.

She was born May 11, 1913, in Urbana to Richard and Rosa (Howell) Johns. She married Charles G. Beck in Findlay Aug. 19, 1929. He died in March 1973.

Survivors include her sons, Donald C. Beck of Port Clinton, Thomas W. Beck of Clinton Township, Mich.; a daughter, Marlyn J. Gensler of Monroe; a brother, William Johns of Columbus, and two sisters, Margaret McCartney of Mansfield and Mary Heldman of Findlay; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

Mrs. Beck was a U.S. naval inspector during World War II; a district manager for Dickey Manufacturing, Toledo, and later owned the Wayside Inn, Fostoria, as well as managing several other restaurants.

She was a past member of the Moose Auxiliary, Rebecca Lodge, American Red Cross volunteer, Daughters of America of Fostoria, VFW Auxiliary in Florida, past president Nugent's Canal Yacht Club Auxiliary and International Order of Satin Gavel in Port Clinton.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, with the Rev. Ray Getter of Wayne Church of Christ as officiant.

Visitation will be noon until the time of service Saturday. Interment is at Memory Gardens, Arcadia.

Bessie L. Blake
Retired nurse

Bessie L. Blake, 90, of North Vine Street, Fostoria, died in Fostoria Community Hospital at 3:47 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999.

She was born April 7, 1908, in rural Fostoria, Washington Township, Hancock County, to John and Mary A. (Hakes) Wolf. On March 19, 1933, in Arcadia, she married Richard W. Blake, who died March 9, 1998.

Survivors include: a son, Robert W. Blake of Fostoria; a daughter, Mrs. James (Beverly) Stegman of Vista, Calif.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were two brothers, Walter and Donald Wolf; and a sister, Hazel Wolf.

Mrs. Blake was employed as a nurse at Fostoria City Hospital (now Fostoria Community Hospital) for more than 14 years, retiring in the early 1970s.

A 1925 graduate of Fostoria High School, she was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Fostoria; Catabwa Point Association and the Police and Fireman's Pension Association and a former member of the Hancock County Election Board.

Services in the Wesley United Methodist Church will be 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Branson J. Hawkes officiating. Interment will be in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Gwendolyn M. Bulkowski
Airfoil Textron retiree

Gwendolyn M. Bulkowski, 69, of Northview Drive, Fostoria, died at 7:26 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.

She was born in Fostoria, March 7, 1929, to the late Stanley and Louise (Reicherd) Wolfelt. On Sept. 4, 1954, in Angola, Ind., she married Eugene W. Bulkowski. He died Oct. 19, 1991.

Surviving are three sons, James Cooper of Mansfield and Scott and Terry Bulkowski, both of Fostoria; two daughters, Debra Hill of Fostoria and Mrs. Greg (Tracy) Jolliff of Forest; a sister, Mrs. John (Barbara) Conrad of Fremont; nine grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were a daughter, Cindy Lou Cooper, and a brother, Harold Wolfelt.

Mrs. Bulkowski, a 1947 graduate of Fostoria High School, retired in 1983 from Airfoil Textron, Fostoria, after 26 years of service.

She attended the Hope Lutheran Church and was a member of the Fostoria Senior Citizens and Ladies of the Moose, all of Fostoria.

There will be no services or visitation. The Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, is in charge of arrangements.

Homemaker/former Fostoria resident

Catherine A. Byers, 87, of 825 June St., Fremont, died at 11:50 a.m. Sunday, March 7, 1999, in the Fremont Care Center.

Born May 26, 1911, in Seneca County, to Herbert P. and Jennie D. (Wolf) Stuckey, she married Charles W. Byers May 26, 1932, in Tiffin. He died in July 1971.

Surviving are a son, Duane H. Byers of Fostoria; two daughters, Mrs. Clifford (Donna J.) Eidenour of Burgoon and Mrs. Gene (Leann P.) Norman of Bellevue; 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

A granddaughter, two brothers and two sisters, also are deceased.

Mrs. Byers, a homemaker, was a former member of Rebecca Lodge, Rising Sun and the Jackson Liberty Grange. She was a graduate of Bettsville High School.

The Rev. Roberta Hart will conduct the 1 p.m. Thursday service in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria. Interment will be in Memory Gardens, near Arcadia.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Cleo O. (Sweazy) Barstow
Fostoria resident

Cleo O. (Sweazy) Barstow, 79, formerly of 652 Stinchcomb St., Fostoria, more recently of 725 Columbus Ave., Fostoria, died at 2:15 a.m., Wednesday, March 24, 1999, at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home.

She was born Aug. 12, 1919, to Porter and Myrtle (Howart) Sweazy. On March 14, 1937, she married Elwood E. Barstow. He is deceased.

Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Fritz (Beverly) Matthews of Fostoria; a grandson, Craig Matthews; a granddaughter, Mrs. Doug (Kimberly K.) Gohringer; a sister, Darlie Pritchard of Columbus and a great-grandchild, Cassalyn Rae Gohringer.

Preceding her in death were: a brother, Ben Sweazy; two sisters, Vivian Fierce and Audrey Goddard.

Mrs. Barstow was a floor supervisor for the Dobson-Evans School, Columbus, for 29 years.

The Rev. Branson J. Hawkes will officiate the 11 a.m., Saturday, March 27, 1999, Memorial Service at the Wesley United Methodist Church, Fostoria. Burial will be at Union Cemetery, Columbus.

There will be no visitation.

Union Carbide Corp. retiree

Columbus L. Brown, 83, of Sandusky Street, Fostoria, died in the Fostoria Community Hospital at 8:56 p.m. Saturday April 24, 1999.

He was born May 5, 1915, in Prestonburg, Ky., to Gorge and Anna M. (Prater) Brown. His wife, Reva A. (May) Brown, whom he married July 18, 1936, in Fostoria, survives in Fostoria.

Survivors also include: four sons, Robert Brown of Arcadia, Charles Brown of Fostoria, Melvin Brown of Charleston, S.C. and Rick Brown, also of Arcadia; five daughters, Mrs. Tom (Ruth) Prater of Findlay, Mrs. Ed (Nora) Smarr of Fostoria, Mrs. Daniel (Carolyn) Rice of Nappanee, Ind., Mrs. Wayne (Marsha) Schlosser of Fremont and Cindy Fry of Fostoria; a brother, Jessie Brown of Fostoria; 27 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren.

Two sisters, Marcella Barnett and Cage Risner, are deceased.

Mr. Brown retired from the Union Carbide Corp. (now National Electrical Carbon Corp.), Fostoria, in 1978, after 24 years of employment.

The Rev. Robert Chew will be the officiant at the 10:30 a.m. Wednesday service in the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria. Interment will be in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Theresa Christeen Burrows, 25, of North Countyline Street, Fostoria, died at her home Sunday, May 9, 1999.

She was born in Fostoria Nov. 8, 1973, to Wayne V. and Mary A. (Tarris) Couch. Her mother, now Mrs. Marion (Mary) Brookman, survives in Fostoria and her father and step-mother, Jacquie, survive in Alvada. Her husband, Shane F. Burrows, whom she married May 6, 1995, in Fostoria, also survives in Fostoria.

Other survivors include:: two sons, Dalton and Steven Burrows, at home; a daughter, Kelsey Burrows, at home; three brothers, Robert "Rob" and Bradford "Brad" Brookman, both of Fostoria and Joel Kleinhen of Bluffton; four sisters, Kelley Miller, Tammy Hernandez and Tina Taylor, all of Fostoria and Lesley Dean of Chicago, Ill.; and her paternal grandmother, Glendola Couch of Fostoria.

Mrs. Burrows, a 1992 graduate of Fostoria High School, was employed as a substitute aide by the Fostoria City Schools and was also a Party Lite Candle consultant.

She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Fostoria and the Fostoria YMCA.

Services in the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, will be 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Allen Minton officiating. Burial will be in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Betty A. Brickner, 74, died at 2:30 p.m. Monday, May 17, 1999, at her home at 6649 W. CR 592, Fostoria.

She was born July 26, 1924, in Bloomville, to Arthur and Eulalia (Lawrence) Moyer. On Aug. 29, 1945, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, she married Urban Brickner. He died Feb. 6, 1993.

Survivors include: three daughters, Mrs. Richard (Connie) Coppus and Patricia Schreiner, both of Tiffin and Mrs. Greg (Elaine) Ozarzak of Sylvania; four brothers, Robert, Charles and Richard Moyer, all of Tiffin and Don Moyer of Fremont; three sisters, Mrs. Jean Katzenmeyer of Tiffin, Mrs. Glenna Winters of Cary, N.C., and Mrs. Dorothy Durfee of Peoria, Ill.; and nine grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were a sister, Marguerite Moyer; a brother, Lloyd Moyer; and an infant brother.

Mrs. Brickner, a 1943 graduate of Columbian High School, was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, Liberty Township, and its Rosary Altar Society and the Daughters of Isabella.

A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Andrew Catholic Church, with the Rev. David Bruning as celebrant. The rosary will be recited 15 minutes prior to the Mass Friday at the church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home will be 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, where a wake service will be at 7:15 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care of Tiffin.


 

 


 

Marion Edward Brenamen
Retired life-long Seneca County farmer

Marion Edward Brenamen, 80, of 3241 N. CR 39, Fostoria, died at 10:48 a.m. Sunday, May 23, 1999, in Fostoria Community Hospital.

He was born in Wood County Nov. 17, 1918, to Martin E. and Alma C. (Gessner) Brenamen. On Sept. 20, 1947, in St. Johns Catholic Church, Jackson, Mich., he married Marie Ann Pahl. She survives in Fostoria.

Survivors also include: a daughter, Mrs. Jeff (Patricia) Clagg of Fostoria; four sons, Michael E. and Donald M. Brenamen, both of Fostoria, Daniel M. Brenamen of Cridersville and Timothy A. Brenamen of Indianapolis, Ind.; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Two brothers, Howard V. and Paul E. Brenamen, preceded him in death.

Mr. Brenamen, a retired lifelong Seneca County farmer, also was a custodial maintenance worker for the Lakota School District and at St. Wendelin Schools.

He was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, and the Seneca County Farm Bureau.

A funeral Mass in St. Wendelin Catholic Church will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday. The rosary will be recited at the church at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where the rosary will be recited at 8:30.

Memorials may be in the form of Mass intentions or to a charity of the donor's choice.



 

 

Richard A. Blechinger
National Electric Carbon laborer

Richard A. Blechinger, 50, of 821 E. Findlay St., Carey, died in the Eaglewood Care Center, Carey, at 5:05 a.m. Friday, July 3, 1999.

He was born in New Riegel, July 1, 1949, the son of the late Virgil and Marilyn (Staley) Blechinger. He was formerly married to Mary Sherman.

Survivors include: a son, Richard A. Blechinger Jr. of Fostoria; three brothers, Joseph M. and Thomas L. Blechinger and James W. Wolford, all of Fostoria; and four sisters, Mary Blechinger and Sharon Lutes, both of Tiffin, Kathleen Gehring of Fostoria and Judy Beltz of Findlay.

A brother, Ronald Blechinger, also is deceased.

Mr. Blechinger, formerly of Sandusky Street, Fostoria, had been employed as a laborer for 32 years at the National Electric Carbon in Fostoria.

Services in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Interment will be in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

Thelma M. Brandt, 80, died at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, 1999, at her residence at 544 Stinchcomb Drive, Fostoria.

She was born in Kenton, Feb. 9, 1919, to Pearle E. and Maude (Bloom) Taylor. On March 23, 1940, in Fostoria, she married Robert H. Brandt, who died Sept. 3, 1991.

Surviving are: two sons, James R. Brandt of Fostoria and Robert L. Brandt of Tucson, Ariz.; two daughters, Mrs. David (Kristine) Scherf and Dawn T. Tsantles, both of Fostoria; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Three brothers, Lloyd P., Edwin and Robert Taylor; and a great-grandchild also are deceased.

Mrs. Brandt, a homemaker, was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Fostoria.

Services in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Richard Hofmann, officiating. Interment will be in Memory Gardens, near Arcadia.

Bessie M. Bernal, 46, of 9105 SR 18, Fostoria, died at 12:48 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, 1999, in Hancock County.

She was born April 8, 1953, in Findlay to Agapito and Josephine (Coleman) Gonzales Sr. They survive in Findlay.

She married Gilberto "Bob" Bernal in Findlay. He survives in Fostoria.

Bisbee of Findlay.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Jesse Gonzales.

Mrs. Bernal had been a secretary for Fostoria Middle School since 1995 and previously a secretary for Excello - (Airfoil Textron), Fostoria, Marathon, Findlay, and Dunipace law office.

Memberships included: St. Wendelin Catholic Church; 1971 graduate of Findlay High School, Browns Backers Organization Member and Secretary, 1990 Stautzenberger College Graduate in Secretarial Science, Legal and Medical, Business Women's Association, helped with Middle School athletics and member of the Secretaries/Fiscal Services Personnel of the school.

The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Wendelin Catholic Church with burial in St. Wendelin Parish cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Sunday in the Hoening Funeral Home in Fostoria, where a Christian wake service will be at 8:30 p.m. Sunday. The Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Monday at the church.

Malinda J. Bradner
Atlas Industries employee

Malinda J. Bradner, 51, of West Seneca CR 28, Fostoria, died in the Fostoria Community Hospital at 5:10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999.

She was born Oct. 19, 1947, in Murray City, to the late William L. and Glennadean M. (Warren) Swyers. On Jan. 5, 1971, in North Baltimore, she married Donald E. Bradner, who preceded her in death Oct. 30, 1998.

Survivors include: four sons, Shawn P. Bradner of Amsden, Donnie E. and Timothy M. Bradner, both of Fostoria and Christopher M. Bradner of Camp La Jeune, N.C.; three brothers, Herk Swyers of Murray City, Ralph Swyers of Orwell, and Bill Swyers of Naples, Fla.; two sisters, Peg Riley of Nelsonville and Fay Hetzel of Sycamore; and seven grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were a son, Johnny Bradner, a daughter, Connie Bradner; a brother, Donald Swyers; and a sister, Delorse Lanning.

Mrs. Bradner, a 1965 graduate of Nelsonville York High School, was employed at Atlas Industries in Fremont.

She was a member of Fostoria Woman of the Moose 154, VFW Ladies Auxiliary 421, WIBC Koffee Klatch and the Tuesday Mixed League at Dunn's Lanes.

Services in the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Donald Goodwin officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery, near Bettsville.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Margaret Cleo Burson Fostoria homemaker

Margaret Cleo Burson, 96, of Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Fostoria, died at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, 1999, at the home. She was born Aug. 29, 1902, in Hancock County to David and Mary Luella (Waltermire) Orwick. On Sept. 3, 1921, she married Raymond E. Burson. He died in January 1976.

Surviving include: a granddaughter, Julie Guffey of Kent; and a great-grandson, Ryan Guffey of Kent.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; a daughter, R. Coleen Burson-Myers; two brothers, Charles and Harlan Orwick; two sisters, Odith Orwick and Lela Russell; and a grandson, James R. Myers.

Mrs. Burson was a graduate of Arlington High School and received her business degree from Findlay College. She was a homemaker and member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Fostoria and United Methodist Women.

The Rev. Branson Hawkes will officiate the service at 1 p.m. today at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Findlay.

Visitation hours are two hours prior to the services.

Norton Richard Boyer
Retired Atlas Crankshaft employee

Norton Richard Boyer, 84, of 627 N. Vine St., Fostoria, died at 1:20 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999, in Good Shepherd Home, Fostoria. He was born July 9, 1915, in Tiffin to Norton C. and Elizabeth (Linhart) Boyer. On Nov. 4, 1939, he married Marian E. Puffenberger at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, and she survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Gary R. Boyer of Knoxville, Tenn., and Stephen W. Boyer of Fostoria; a daughter, Mrs. Gary (K. Diane) Howard of Silver Lake; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a brother, Phillip Boyer of Tiffin.

Preceded in death by a brother, Eugene R. Boyer.

Mr. Boyer was a 1933 graduate of St. Wendelin High School. He retired in 1977 from Atlas Crankshaft of Fostoria, as a Production Manager, where he had been employed for over 30 years. Memberships included: St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria; 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, Council 1197, Fostoria; and Fostoria Country Club.

Mass of Christian Burial is at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the St. Wendelin Church.

Visitation hours are from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. tonight, in the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial will be at St. Wendelin Parish Cemetery.

Circle of Mercy will recite a Rosary at 4 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. Christian Wake service will be at 8:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. Rosary will be recited at church at 10 a.m. Saturday.

MARGARET CAVEY-BROCK

FOSTORIA -- Margaret Ellen Cavey-Brock, 72, of 725 Columbus Ave., Fostoria, died at 9:05 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17, 1999, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.

She was born June 11, 1927, in Glouster to Jefferson L. and Celesta B. (Millhoan) Hogue. She married Robert H. Cavey in March 1947, and he died Dec. 16, 1979. She married Wayman C. Brock in September 1980, and they were divorced.

Surviving are two sons, Charles W. and Robert L. Cavey, both of Fostoria; two daughters, Mary Hemmerly, Findlay; Mrs. Tom (Lola) Tyson, Fostoria; 25 grandchildren; and 45 great grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by four brothers; and one sister.

Mrs. Cavey-Brock was a homemaker.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, the Rev. Dale Neller officiating. Burial will be in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

 

 

 

Clara Browning
Retired nurses aide

Clara Browning, 74, formerly of 645 Lynn St., Fostoria, died at 12:22 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999, in St. Catherine's Care Center, 536 Stinchcomb Drive, Fostoria., where she resided.

She was born in Sedalia, S.C., Aug. 3, 1925, to Walter Sr.and Maratha (Wilfield) Epps. Her husband, Postell Browning Sr., whom she married April 6, 1947, in Sedalia, survives in Fostoria.

Other survivors include: five sons, Lewis Browning of Lima, Postell Jr., Marshall E., Willie M. and Joe W. Browning, all of Fostoria; three daughters, Mrs. Oliver (Maratha) Dulin and Whonetha Edwards, both of Mansfield and Patricia Johnson of Fostoria; a sister, Mrs. Jimmie N. Jones of Fostoria; 13 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

A brother, Walter Epps Jr., also is deceased.

Mrs. Browning, a member of Faith A.M.E. Church, Fostoria, retired in 1982 as a nurses aide, from Fostoria Community Hospital, where she had been employed for 20 years.

Services in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Interment will be in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation at the funeral home, will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Richard S. Beach, 64, of 216 Summit St., Fostoria, died at 8:15 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, 1999, in Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg.

He was born in Fostoria, April 2, 1935, to the late William W. Beach and Helen M. (Layton) Beach-Shaffer. His wife, Barbara J. (Kirian) Beach, whom he married July 23, 1955, in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, died Sept. 2, 1983.

Survivors include: four sons, Gregg A. Beach of Fostoria, David L. Beach of Findlay, Christopher E. Beach of Toledo and Michael A. Beach of Indianapolis, Ind.; three daughters, Mrs. David (Kathryn) Hill of Fostoria, Mrs. Arthur (Julie) Armon of Tiffin and Mrs. David (Tracy) Mintey of Mt. Blanchard; a brother, Mike Shaffer of Fostoria; two sisters, Mrs. Harold (Barbara) Geran and Mrs. Shirley Dixon, both of Fostoria; and 17 grandchildren.

His step-father, Frank Shaffer, and a grandchild, also are deceased.

Mr. Beach, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, worked on the crankshaft line at Atlas Crankshaft Inc. in Fostoria for 35 years, retiring in 1992.

He was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, the AMVETS and Eagles Club, all of Fostoria.

A funeral Mass in St. Wendelin Catholic Church will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, with the rosary recited at 10 a.m.. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, where military graveside rites will be conducted by the United Veterans of Fostoria.

Visitation at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today, where a Christian wake service will be at 8:30 p.m.

CHARLES A. BERNARD

FOSTORIA -- Charles A. "Chuck" Bernard, 68, of 6074 County Road 23, Fostoria, died at 8:05 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999 at his daughter's home in Fostoria.

He was born Jan. 30, 1931 in Tiffin to Oscar and Louise (Wilhelm) Bernard. He married Shirley Heyman and she died on Oct. 7, 1976.

He is survived by a son, Charles A. Jr. of Camarillo, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Margaret Ann) Smith, Fostoria; five grandchildren; a sister, Rose Marie Tate, Tiffin; and a brother, Richard D. Bernard Sr. of Clyde.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Bernard was employed at Seneca Environmental as a welder and fabricator since 1973. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

He was a Calvert High School graduate.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. James K. Say officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Friday at Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home. Also, a rosary will be recited at 10:45 a.m. Saturday prior to services at the church.

Anthony W. 'Tony' Brown
Fostoria resident

Anthony W. "Tony" Brown, 41, of 1118 Sandusky St., Fostoria, died at 4:03 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, in the Medical College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo.

He was born in Toledo, Dec. 30, 1957, to Waverly Brown Jr. and Leona Mae (Zunk) Baker. His mother and step-father, Roy Baker, survives in Fostoria.

Other survivors include: two sons, Anthony Brown Jr. of Indiana and Zachary McKnight of Bowling Green; two daughters, Sunshine Brown of Indiana and Megan Brown of Fostoria; six brothers, Keith Brown of Oceola, Delbert, Glen, Jim and Mark Brown, all of Fostoria and Mike Brown of Marion; two sisters, Mrs. Mick (Linda) Wesney of Fostoria and Rosey Brown of Michigan; and his fiance, Tina Debelak, also of Fostoria.

His father is deceased.

The Rev. Donald R. Goodwin will be the officiant at the 1 p.m. Wednesday service in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria. Interment will be in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.

ERNEST J. BIBBEE

WEST MILLGROVE -- Funeral services for Ernest J. Bibbee, 77, of West Millgrove, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Barndt Funeral Home, Wayne, the Rev. Larry G. Swaisgood officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, West Millgrove.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Bibbee died at 12:20 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, 1999 at Fostoria Community Hospital.

He was born April 12, 1922 in Fostoria to Sherman H. and Lena E. (Kreais) Bibbee. He married Mary E. Fry on Nov. 7, 1942 in Walbridge and she died on March 2, 1997.

Surviving are a son, E. Bruce of Fostoria; three daughters, Mrs. Jerrell (Linda L.) Thompson, Decatur, Ala.; Mrs. Stanley (Rebecca S.) Kemenah, Fremont; Mrs. Bobby (Jane A.) Holcombe, Fountain Inn, S.C.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Russell of Fostoria; a sister, Mrs. Perry (Phyllis) Reinhard, Fostoria.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter; two half brothers, Johnny and Aaron Wolfgang; and three half sisters, Gladys Newell, Florence Meyers and Gladys Shaver.

Mr. Bibbee retired from the C&O Railroad as a brakeman after 41 years, and was a former West Millgrove councilman.

He attended Arcadia High School.

He served with the Merchant Marine on the S.S. Jonathon Grout Ship during World War II.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Railroad Association, the Seafarers International Union and St. Wendelin Catholic Church.

Dolores Anna Bugner
Fostoria resident

Dolores Anna Bugner, 80, of Fostoria, died at 11:35 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999. She was born May 7, 1919, to Everett Marshall and Leona (Cook) Marshall-Richardson. They are deceased.

On June 10, 1939, she married Raymond F. Bugner at St. Peter Catholic Church, Alvada. He survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, John R. Bugner of Swansea, Ill., and Douglas E. Bugner of Rochester, N.Y.; three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Opperman of Fostoria, Mrs. Joan Alexander of Jackson, Mich., and Suzanne Elter of Holland, Ohio; a brother, Ralph "Bud" Richardson Jr. of Barberton; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were: a stepfather, Ralph Richardson; a brother, Robert Richardson; and a sister, Clara Gibson.

Mrs. Bugner worked at the former Bugner's Grocery, and Lane's Drugs, both of Fostoria. Her memberships included: Charter membership of the Ladies Auxiliary of Knights of Columbus, Fostoria; Catholic Knights of Ohio, Branch 52 of New Riegel; Women of the Moose, New Riegel; and lifelong member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria. Burial will be at St. Peter Parish Cemetery, Alvada.

Visitation will be 3-9 p.m. Sunday at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria. The Rosary will be recited at 8:30. Catholic Knights of Ohio will conduct a service following the Rosary.

A Rosary will also be recited at 10 a.m. Monday at the church.

Celeste J. Brickner
Retired teacher

Celeste J. Brickner, 86, of 6149 W. Tiffin St., Bascom, died at 8:10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, in Autumnwood Care Center.

She was born March 16, 1913, in Seneca County, to Frank and Dora (Hammer) Brickner.

Survivors include: a brother, Francis J. Brickner of Fostoria; three sisters, Sister Mary Norene of the Ursuline Convent, Toledo, Mary Agnes Clouse of New Riegel and Regina Hohman of Tiffin; and 24 nieces and nephews.

Two sisters, Luella Kelbley and Marcella Brickner, preceded her in death.

Miss Brickner, a graduate of Calvert High School and Bowling Green State University, retired in 1976 as a teacher. She starting teaching in 1933, and taught for 31 years in a one-room school and 25 years at St. Andrew School, Liberty Township.

A lifelong resident of Seneca County, she was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin.

She also did volunteer work at Hopewell-Loudon School and spent many years in CCD work in the local community.

An avid gardener and charter member of the Bascom Community Garden Club, she shared her talents with many.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 am. Tuesday in St. Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Frank Murd, the Rev. Frederick Schill and the Rev. Richard Dunn officiating. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Bascom.

There will be no visitation. The Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary's School Library, Hopewell-Loudon Elementary School Library or the donor's choice.

 


Ida M. Bentz
Ford Motor Co. retiree

Ida M. Bentz, 86, died at 10:15 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at her residence at 534 S. Wood St., Fostoria.

She was born July 10, 1913, in Alvada, to Stephen and Teresa (Fredericks) Coleman. Her husband, Edward R. Bentz, whom she married July 7, 1931, in St. Peters Catholic Church, Alvada, died June 21, 1991.

Survivors include: a son, Darrel E. Bentz of Fostoria; three daughters, Valeria V. Nye and Clara Nye, both of Bloomdale and Eileen Baney of Fostoria; 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Fredricka Wagner of New Riegel, Zita Wickiser of Arcadia and Bea Morrison of Tiffin; and a brother, Kenneth Coleman of Wapakoneta.

She was preceded in death by eight brothers, Floyd, Lawrence, Clarence, Edmund, Stephen, Silverius, William and Francis Coleman; two sisters, Angeline Bentz and Viola Dickens; a grandson and a great-grandson.

Mrs. Bentz, a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, retired in 1974 as an assembler, from the Ford Motor Co., Fostoria, after 26 years of employment.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, with burial following in St. Wendelin Parish Cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Thomas F. Bordner
Seneca Street resident

Thomas F. Bordner, 57, 1320 Seneca St., died at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at his residence.

He was born in Lucas County, Jan. 18, 1942, to the late Ralph O. and Mayme (Bartlett) Bordner. He had never married.

Survivors include: three brothers, Robert L. Bordner Sr. of Fostoria, James P. Bordner of Tiffin and Wayne Holmer of Toledo; two sisters, Mrs. Lloyd (Margarette) Smith of Tiffin and Mrs. Gary (Darlene) Shumaker of Sycamore; and nieces and nephews.

Four brothers -- Ralph, Leonard and Victor Bordner and an infant -- are deceased.

Mr. Bordner lived most of his life in the Tiffin area.

The Rev. Wendell Shepherd will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Thursday service in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home.Interment will be in Fairmont Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour before the service Thursday at the funeral home.

 


STEPHEN C. BRODBECK

Stephen Carl Brodbeck, 53, 310 Center St., died at 5:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999 at his home.

He was born Feb. 4, 1946 in Decatur, Ind. to Robert and Ruth (Klepper) Brodbeck. His father and stepmother, Marilyn Brodbeck, survive in Akron. He married Goldie Payne in 1980 and she survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Greg (Laura) Phillips, Washington, D.C.; Lisa Brodbeck, Akron; Tonya Brown, Forest; five sons, David Harper, Cuyahoga Falls; Steve and Robby Brodbeck, both of Findlay; Jeff Jameson, Lima; Bryan Jameson, Marysville; three grandchildren; four brothers, Kent of Fostoria; Tom and Bob, both of Akron; Don of Lima; and two sisters, Mrs. Kenny (Janice) Vaughn, Akron; Mrs. Pat (Mary Anne) D'Andrea, Cuyahoga Falls.

Mr. Brodbeck was a self-employed laborer.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of the DAV Lodge 43, Findlay, and a former member of the American Legion and Moose Lodge.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Kirkpatrick-Behnke Funeral Home, Elder Rolla Miller Jr., officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
