Vets' Memorial Chapel Committee Makes Plans
For Memorial Day
By Leonard Skonecki
The Veterans Memorial Chapel committee is looking forward to
the Memorial Day observances Monday at Fountain Cemetery.
The committee met May 14 to finalize plans. The 10am
services will be preceded by a groundbreaking ceremony for the chapel
at 9:30am. The public is invited to attend this event.
In other business, the committee is continuing it
s fund-raising efforts. Thus far, nearly $35,000 has been raised
by Fostoria's veterans organizations toward the $150,000 cost of
the chapel.
The chapel will include an office for the ceremony
supervisor and a public restroom. The chapel will replace the recently
demolished wood structure that was located near the cemetery podium.
The committee approved a fund-raising letter that
will go out to local businesses and organizations. Volunteers from
the committee will visit any business or group that wishes to have
a presentation on the chapel, its purpose, design or function.
Levels of large donations are Bronze Star ($1,000),
Silver Star ($2,500) and Gold Star ($55,000). Donors will have a
large granite paver in the chapel interior with room for an inscription.
Donations are tax deductible.
Invitations are being sent to Fostoria's Ohio House
representatives and other area elected officials to attend the groundbreaking.
The chapel committee has scheduled a reverse raffle/rib
fund-raiser dinner for October 18 at the UAW Fellowship Hall.
The cost is $100 per ticket. A couple can purchase
one full ticket for the $100 and an additional dinner ticket for
$10.
First prize will be $7,500. Second prize is $1,000.
Third is $500. There will be other smaller prizes with total prize
money of $10,000.
Dinner will be from 5-7pm. The Café' is providing
the ribs. The raffle will be from 7-9pm and Don & Jerry DJ's
will entertain from 9pm-midnight.
Anyone with questions about the chapel or businesses
and groups who would like to hear a presentation on the chapel can
