Entertainment For Fostoria Youngsters
In
the thirties, playgrounds in the Fostoria area were not supervised
by teachers, or city workers, but by men looking for work
of any kind. WPA workers in particular is what I was told.
There were morning and afternoon hours on week days. Usually from
9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m to 4 p.m. as I recall. Softball
teams were organized and would travel to playgrounds within the
city to compete. There were many actives at these playgrounds
of games of the time. Hide and seek, Ring around the Rosie,
Drop the hanker Chef, Jacks, Marbles, Basketball, and many more.
I ran into the articles below while doing some research for another
article that was of interest to me.
