Brief History

Music is an integral part of Fostoria. It is a part of our heritage. There has been for at least the past 50 years, a band representing Fostoria; whose membership was taken from Fostoria proper and the surrounding communities. Fostoria has been the home for the nationally known VFW band of the 40's and 50's, the Federation Band, and most recently the Fostoria Community Band. The VFW Band and the Federation Band are gone now, but not the love and appreciation of music. The desire of certain individuals from the Federation Band to continue the fine traditions that has aspired Fostoria in its appreciation of music, caused them to forge a new band. The Fostoria Community Band was formed in the mid 1990's under the direction of Dave Zoll, a former music instructor for Fostoria High School and a fine musician in his own right. From those first nights of maybe ten interested musicians, the band  has grown to more than 50 persons participating on a regular basis. The band  is now under the directorship of Joe Sheak, the current music instructor for Fostoria High School. The band performs several concerts through out the calendar year at various venues in and around Fostoria. The Fostoria Community Band practices, every Thursday evening, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
